Background
Barry started his accounting career with a major Connecticut regional accounting firm in 1971. He became a partner in this firm and gained his expertise in the area of taxation while servicing a variety of privately owned manufacturing, industrial, health care, service, and retail clients.
In 1984, Barry joined the international accounting firm Levanthal & Horvath as Director of Tax Services for Connecticut. In that position, he provided tax planning and compliances services to high-net-worth individuals and Fortune 1000 Companies.
Barry established the firm of Barry A. Cohen, CPA in 1987 and in August 1993 became a principal partner in the firm of Cohen, Kaufman, & Associates LLC. In addition to supplying his clients with accounting, auditing, and tax services, he specializes in providing tax and estate planning, tax compliance services, and representations on behalf of clients before the Internal Revenue Service. He has been an expert witness and has provided a full range of services to closely held industrial, retail, and service concerns, including distributors, manufacturers, medical and dental practices, retail, and service concerns.
Barry has hands-on experience in health care practice management and consulting. He has helped numerous physicians increase revenues, implement managed care strategies and facilitate mergers and acquisitions.
Barry has presented numerous lectures on behalf of the CSCPA Education and Research Foundation and has published articles on taxation and other topics.
